A cause and an issue that I think is some what similar in importance is the whole gay rights situation. I don't think it may be as serious as the rights that African Americans demanded.I think that gay rights are some what similar to this cause because in America, and probably other places around the world, gay people do not have the same rights as somebody who is heterosexual. This is not right and I do not think that people should have to go through what they have had to go through. If more people were to try and do something to gain the rights that they deserve. It might take a while, just like it took the Freedom Riders a while, but in the end it will be worth it. Where I stand in this situation is that it does not directly effect me, but I still support the movement and think that something should be done. If something was to be done about it then I would definitely try to find a way to be a part of it. No matter how hard Hollywood tried  to depict the Freedom Riders I do not think that it could be authentically done. I don't think so because of all the torture and hard times that these people went through. I mean in a sense Hollywood is usually good with depicting things similar to this topic, but for some reason I just don't think that they would be able to depict the Freedom Riders with all these actors and actresses who don't really feel the struggle that these people really had to go through. I also feel like Hollywood would try to change up some stories to make them more interesting or possibly even try to cut out very important parts. If Hollywood depicted the Freedom Riders in a effective way in a movie, the movie would probably have to be like 3 hours long to actually include every moment.

In todays society race-relations are very different than they were in the time during the Freedom Riders and when Harper Lee wrote To Kill a Mockingbird. I believe that today race-relations have some what gotten better. When slavery was abolished in the U.S. by President Lincoln I feel like this led us to a better future in the relationships between races. My own personal experience with race- relations is actually quite interesting. Since I am biracial and I have a lot of friends that are of different ethnicities, I'm put in the situation of being around a lot of different races most of the time. The only tension I ever really experience between races are the stereotypes people have and some of the names that people within the races call each other. One reason I believe that we have progressed since the 30's is because even though some people still with hatred in their heart towards people, now a days you see groups of inter-racial friends, inter-racial couple , etc. Stereotypes, in my opinion, have gotten worse over the years. The most common ones I hear are that all black people are very loud, all asians and indians are really smart with strict parents and all white people talk preppy and proper. All of these arent necessarily true and could possibly really offend somebody. And when it comes to the names that people within in these races call each other, they are very offensive and often inappropriate. Other then those two things I believe that race-relations are at a pretty good place. Overall I;m glad that the U.S. has been able to put the differences between races and color aside and just come togteher as one. If it hadnt been for them being able to set aside their differences then I wouldnt of been born and the world would be a totally different place.
