In todays society race-relations are very different than they were in the time during the Freedom Riders and when Harper Lee wrote To Kill a Mockingbird. I believe that today race-relations have some what gotten better. When slavery was abolished in the U.S. by President Lincoln I feel like this led us to a better future in the relationships between races. My own personal experience with race- relations is actually quite interesting. Since I am biracial and I have a lot of friends that are of different ethnicities, I'm put in the situation of being around a lot of different races most of the time. The only tension I ever really experience between races are the stereotypes people have and some of the names that people within the races call each other. One reason I believe that we have progressed since the 30's is because even though some people still with hatred in their heart towards people, now a days you see groups of inter-racial friends, inter-racial couple , etc. Stereotypes, in my opinion, have gotten worse over the years. The most common ones I hear are that all black people are very loud, all asians and indians are really smart with strict parents and all white people talk preppy and proper. All of these arent necessarily true and could possibly really offend somebody. And when it comes to the names that people within in these races call each other, they are very offensive and often inappropriate. Other then those two things I believe that race-relations are at a pretty good place. Overall I;m glad that the U.S. has been able to put the differences between races and color aside and just come togteher as one. If it hadnt been for them being able to set aside their differences then I wouldnt of been born and the world would be a totally different place.
